Metropark Hotel Macau

The room was awful: it smelled strongly of mold, and there was a hair on the sheets. We couldn’t open the curtains without facing people in the building opposite. The whole hotel felt run-down, like somewhere in a village. There’s another Holiday Inn less than 50 meters away for the same 900 RMB a night, and its surroundings are much better. I’ve stayed at Holiday Inns plenty of times and thought I’d try this one. Big mistake. The check-in mess was even worse. I’d booked through Ctrip and had clear confirmation from the hotel, but when we arrived around 8pm on April 4th, the young man at the front desk said they had no booking and told us to contact Ctrip ourselves. He stressed that we had to call live customer service, not the hotel. I hate dealing with hotlines, and after struggling to find the right number on Ctrip, I called and got the same clueless front desk guy. In front of the line, he shouted, “Sir, I told you, call Ctrip, not the hotel!” Everyone in the lobby heard him embarrass me for supposedly calling the wrong number. The hotel’s failure to sync with Ctrip seemed to be the problem, but they put all the stress on me. After all that, Ctrip’s customer service fixed it quickly, apologized repeatedly, and gave me a 52 RMB cash refund. The front desk guy just stood there looking smug and indifferent, as if I’d caused the booking problem. It wasn’t only my issue, either. Everyone in the lobby seemed to be having trouble, and complaints were all around. The fact that all these problems could happen in one hotel is impressive in the worst way. What a trash hotel. Stay away.

It was quieter than some of the other hotels on my trip, which made it a relaxing place to stay. Getting to attractions and places to eat was easy too, and the price felt reasonable. At Metropark Hotel Macau the room was comfortable, clean, and well kept, so I’d give cleanliness 8/10. The building isn’t new, but it’s maintained well and everything felt solid and functional, also 8/10. I’d recommend it for a peaceful, convenient stay in Macau.

We had lunch here on a group tour, and the food was pretty average. It wasn’t served very warm or fresh, so I wouldn’t recommend the hotel restaurant. The buffet was unlimited, though, so hungry people could have a lot.

The breakfast buffet was delicious, the location was excellent, and the staff gave excellent service. Those are all good reasons I’d recommend staying here again.
