Hotel Plaza Huatulco Bungalows

The poolside bungalows are a big plus if you have kids, and we loved the location. The people were nice, but the place needs better upkeep and the service wasn't the best. They advertised laundry service but didn't honor it, saying there had been a problem with a client. We booked through Airbnb and were pleasantly surprised to get cleaning that day. Still, on arrival there were no towels, some hairs, and water near the shower. This was the least clean place we stayed in all Oaxaca. We enjoyed our stay overall, but I think it's overpriced for what you get.

For the price, it's a nice place, cheaper than the nearby resorts. We liked the pool and how close it was to restaurants and the beach. The AC worked well, and having Netflix on the TV was nice. A few basic fixes and more attention to detail would improve things a lot. Our shower head leaked all night, the door had no handle and was held with zip ties, and the bed was oddly placed right beside the door and a window where anyone could easily see in.

If you're trying to save money, this is a decent spot. It's clean, the AC is ice cold, and the pool is pretty nice, though the appearance leaves a bit to be desired. It seems to be under some kind of construction, which I hope is the case. There was an open electrical box on the ground by the pool with live, loosely secured wires. I'm an electrician, and that's unacceptable anywhere. A child stepping on it with wet feet could be in real danger. My unit had no hot water at all, and my friends' unit next door had no doorknob. The workmanship in general is pretty loose. Hopefully they read reviews and fix these issues, which seem easy enough to address.

The pool area is fabulous, and the place is quiet, close to the beach, and near other activities. Downtown is easy and inexpensive to reach. The staff were friendly and spoke some English, though they weren't often at reception. Laundry on site was easy to use and affordable. The water was lukewarm, definitely not hot. Wi-Fi had some issues but was fine overall. There are smart TVs and tours on offer.
