Hotel Plaza Real de la Paz

The rooms are very worn, and the AC was so loud I worried it would keep me awake or stop me hearing my alarm. A nearby club played music so loudly that the bass made the window shake until 2 a.m. Bring earplugs if you want a peaceful night. The location is good, the staff are very nice, and the restaurant looked good, though I didn't eat there. Even at a reasonable price, I'd think twice about staying.

We were in room 207, and it smelled like raw sewage. There were no bath mats, so we were worried about slipping after a shower. No safe or fridge either. Just go to a hostel. Don't stay here!

The location is great, near the middle of the Malecon, and the staff were pleasant and helpful. The room had AC; it was clean enough, and the bed was comfortable enough. The catch is that every room faces the street behind the hotel, where there are local bars and the hotel's own bar and restaurant. The music is so loud it feels like the party is in your room until 2 a.m. If you're planning to stay out partying until the bars close, this could work. If you need an early night, don't stay here.

We booked at the last minute during the busy season, when very few rooms were left. It's a basic, clean room with imperfect beds, and about what you'd expect at this price. The big draw is the incredible location, with the area, great food, and ocean right outside. Keep your expectations simple and enjoy it. I'd stay again.
