The terrace is a lovely place to watch the sunrise, and the hostel is within walking distance of Rinconcito, Mazunte and Mermejita beaches. The staff are friendly and charming. Dorm rooms are spacious, beds are comfortable and have mosquito nets, and each one has its own little fan. The kitchen has all the tools you might need and gets cleaned every day after lunchtime. There’s just one toilet and shower for men and one for women. That may be an issue when the hostel is full, but it wasn’t a problem when it was quieter.

We left after just one night, even though we’d paid for two. We’ve stayed in plenty of hostels over the years, and this was our worst experience. The mattresses were hard and lumpy, with a strange raised part in the middle, so we could only sleep at the sides. The fans barely worked, and there was nowhere to charge a phone by the bed. A tiny, unpleasant dog tied to the house barked at night and kept us awake. Then at 6 a.m. the sun was blazing straight onto the beds. The cat might get into your bed, which some people may like, I guess. The kitchen was extremely dirty. The fridge was full of old food, the supposedly clean cups were dirty, and the chairs were nearly falling apart. There’s one shower and two bathrooms, but one toilet doesn’t flush and has no sink. The internet barely worked. The staff didn’t seem to be working, just sitting around talking with friends, even though there was plenty to improve. When we raised our concerns, they didn’t seem to care and told us to contact booking.com. They hadn’t confirmed our stay, though, so we couldn’t do that. I’d strongly recommend staying elsewhere. Even the cemetery next door would have been nicer.
The owner is friendly, the beds are comfortable, and it’s the best price in town. There are plants all over the place and lots of cute cats. The kitchen is pretty well stocked, with a mixer but no oven. I took off two points because the internet was unbelievably slow.
It’s close to the beach, but I had a very bad stay. The room and fans were dusty, and I found the toilet unflushed even though there were no other guests. The room was full of bugs and mosquitoes. This is the cheapest hostel in Mazunte for a reason, and I got what I paid for. It was the worst hostel experience I’ve had. I left right after the first night and didn’t get my money back. If you can afford to pay a little more, stay somewhere else.
It’s very close to the beach and has the basics you’d need for a few nights at the lowest price. There are cute animals around, and I loved the orange cat. The internet was a bit on and off. There’s only one women’s toilet, and it doesn’t lock. Three times someone pulled the door open while I was in there, which was annoying.
