Capitalia Downtown Del Valle

The front desk and cleaning staff are polite and nice, but the hygiene and noise made this a very uncomfortable stay. We contacted Capitalia beforehand to make sure they knew we needed a thorough cleaning. After we arrived, we still had to call about cleanliness. They came to clean, but the floor remained filthy. I walked barefoot for about 30 seconds and the bottoms of my feet turned black with dust, soot, dirt, or who knows what. Socks worn without slippers got so dirty I couldn’t put shoes on without dirtying the insides. It seemed they never mopped or used something like a Swiffer to lift the layers of dirt. One bathroom floor had an oily, greasy layer we could see and feel, and ants were crawling out of the sink in the other. The toilets had weak pressure and didn’t flush easily in either bathroom. The shower heads were messed up and sprayed water everywhere, and no one had fixed them. The “concierge” gave us incorrect advice, saying there was an organic grocery across the street when it was just a gas station type store without organic goods. The kitchen wasn’t well equipped. At night and early in the morning it was loud, both from other units and through what seemed like thin, unsoundproofed walls, so you’ll need earplugs to sleep well. We’re on the 5th floor of the Del Valle property and noise is still a big issue. It gets hot inside, and there doesn’t seem to be air conditioning. Paint is peeling everywhere, the sheets and pillowcases are pilled and seem old and cheap, and the property doesn’t feel well maintained. I don’t like spending vacation time trying to sort out these issues, and hope others don’t have to. Last night was uncomfortable, to say the least. Update: They finally cleaned the floors, though in a bizarre way, scrubbing with a broom and then pushing the dirty water away with a squeegee. At least they finally used soap and cleaned. Today we used the washer/dryer combo. After washing, just before starting the dryer, we noticed a very strong mold smell from the washer, and now it’s in our clothes. We contacted our manager Jacqueline and Capitalia. We have to rewash the clothes or get them to a dry cleaner quickly, or they’ll be damaged. It’s a bad experience even though the staff themselves are genuinely polite and nice.

Really nice place. I’d stay again and recommend it to anyone.

Getting around was easy thanks to the helpful front desk person, who gave us good public transportation advice. The bed was comfortable and the location is convenient. There’s no AC, though, and the room gets hot when you close the window to keep out the noise. It’s very loud. There’s no phone in the room, and with the elevator broken, asking a question meant getting a workout. The room wasn’t cleaned unless we requested service.
