RMS Hostal - Condesa

The location worked well, close to many of Mexico City's main monuments and attractions, and the street felt safe with lots of greenery around. Service was fine, though the language barrier was there. Speaking Spanish probably would have helped. Our room had no air conditioning at all, despite it being advertised, and the private bathroom was a plus until the hostel shut off the water to fix a pump while I was lathered up. A heads-up would have been nice. I rinsed with the bottled water we had in the room, then waited an hour for the mains to come back so I could finish showering. The biggest issue was getting to the room. It was at the top of an outdoor, three-story spiral metal garden staircase. That might be manageable for a young couple, but hauling suitcases up was hard, and it could be unsuitable for people with limited mobility. There was no mention of this access. Make your own assumptions about fire safety and the like. It was an economical way to stay in Mexico City, and fine if the room and stairs don't bother you. Just don't expect more than what I've described.

The friendly atmosphere and well-kept space made it easy to relax and enjoy my stay. From the moment I arrived, it felt welcoming and comfortable. Viridiana was especially helpful and understanding throughout, always making an effort to look after guests. I had a great experience and would definitely stay here again. I'd recommend it to anyone looking for a good hostel.

The beds have curtains, which is a great touch. It's a simple hostel and good for the price, with a great location that's walkable to most areas and bus routes. Staff are very helpful even with the language barrier.

There are communal areas, and they're adequate. The location is good, but the shared four-bed dorm was difficult to reach, up an outdoor spiral fire escape. Carrying backpacks and belongings up and down was a pain and felt unsafe. The room was tiny, with nowhere for bags unless you stacked them on top of each other. That's okay if you know everyone in the dorm, but awkward if you don't. The toilets and showers are in the main building and open onto the shared space, so every bathroom trip meant taking the spiral stairs back down. The shower only had cold water. The room was very hot and had no AC, though they did provide a fan.
