Hotel San Diego

The attached restaurant has reasonable prices, though we were charged for a little milk and hot water. When we politely declined to tip, the atmosphere changed. The next morning we had breakfast at the hotel across the road instead. Its menu was similar and priced about the same. We didn’t extend our stay because of noise inside the hotel. It’s about a 20-minute walk to the city center. Our room was a good size, with an extremely large, comfortable bed. There’s no air conditioning, fridge, or water dispenser, although they do leave a bottle of water when you arrive. The floor felt a little uneven, possibly because the city is gradually sinking. The bathroom was fine and the water pressure and temperature were good. But there wasn’t a proper shower door, so we had to use the main bathroom door to keep water from flooding the floor.

The rooms are clean and fine, so it works if all you need is somewhere to sleep. The internet is basically nonexistent, especially on the fifth floor. I’m pretty sure the router’s a potato with wires. I had to sit in the check-in lounge to get anything done, and the front desk wasn’t much help.

We paid around 110€ for three nights through an AirBnb offer, and the location was great, beside the pink metro line and within walking distance of lots of cool places. The rooms aren’t soundproof from each other. You hear everything on the floor, people snoring, flushing toilets, talking, coughing. Corridor lights are super bright and stay on all night, and the big gap under the door lets the light into the room. They advertise against wasting electricity and water, so maybe they could set a better example themselves. I wouldn’t recommend breakfast. It’s very heavy and greasy, with pretty bland taste.

Easy to reach from the cathedral and downtown, and the place was nice and calm. The room and washroom were clean, and the automatic light sensors help save power. I had a good stay, though the internet still needs decent speed. If the WiFi were better, I’d give it five stars. I didn’t try the hotel restaurant.
