Hotel Real Alma

We were really disappointed, especially with the tiny bed and the cramped room. There was barely space for two small suitcases, let alone moving around comfortably. The room smelled strongly of damp, and that made the first night hard to sleep through. Breakfast choices were limited and not very good. Although it’s in Oaxaca’s historic district, the street felt unsafe to us. For a similar price, there are plenty of better places in the city.

The street below was incredibly loud late into the night, and the bathroom had a really strong sewage smell. The room itself was clean, but the receptionist wasn’t friendly. I wouldn’t come back.

There’s a covered section on the rooftop, which was handy when we brought lunch up one afternoon. The included breakfast was decent, though the food we tried elsewhere was better. It can still save you some money on a few mornings. The location makes it easy to walk to most attractions and restaurants. Rooms and bathrooms were clean, daily service was good, and staff were friendly and helpful. We mostly communicated with Google Translate, which was fine. Wi-Fi worked great, and fresh linens and bottled water were provided.

The location worked really well, close to two marketplaces and the zocalo. After the street vendors packed up at night, things got quiet, and the streets were cleaned every day. The hotel was clean, breakfast was delicious, and the staff were friendly and quick to respond.
