Yael, the front desk manager, was a treasure. He seemed to be there 24/7, ready to help with anything we needed. Give him a raise! The hotel itself has one of the wildest designs I’ve seen: a Portuguese architect made a maze of hidden spaces, including what feels like a private cenote under the breakfast area, and our room had three levels. The breakfast needs a general overhaul for a hotel this pricey. The included buffet was minimal and wasn’t replenished. There were only a few bananas when we arrived, already brown, and they kept getting worse during our stay. The extra charge for a latte, or any coffee other than their Oaxacan cinnamon-tasting concoction, was excessive and unnecessary, especially since the quality was poor. The water temperature was also hard to keep steady, swinging between piping hot and cold.

We finished a food tour here and had a delicious corn cake for dessert. The staff were super friendly, and the architecture and space felt lovely, relaxed, and welcoming. I’d come back for a full meal and might stay at the hotel in the future.

Otro Oaxaca is right in the heart of el centro, with easy walking access to everything in town. Mayra at the front desk was a delight, always sweet and friendly when we saw her. Christian at the restaurant was great, too. Service was really good all around, and we enjoyed chatting with the staff. Even housekeeping were kind and attentive. I’d recommend staying here.

Chris and May served us drinks on our first night, and they made it a great evening. We didn’t know much about mezcal, so Chris took the time to explain the basics and gave us a wonderful introduction. He picked two mezcals that fit our flavor preferences perfectly. May was so welcoming and upbeat, and paid close attention to us throughout our time in the restaurant. Muchos gracias to both of them.

The rooftop view is worth every penny, and we both loved the cenote experience, though the water is cold. My wife also enjoyed her massage. The architecture and whole experience are gorgeous and one of a kind, right in Oaxaca centro and close to everything. There was construction above reception that woke us around 8 a.m., but the beautiful church bells start even earlier, so it didn’t bother us much. There are no elevators, which catches some people by surprise. The roof is three stairwells up. We had an amazing stay and would definitely come back. Thank you, Otro!
