Hotel Boutique Lafayette Tijuana

Step upstairs from the busy Tijuana street and it feels like you've entered a beautiful boutique hideaway. Hotel Lafayette has gorgeous décor, and the service is top-notch, with the staff checking in constantly by WhatsApp and making sure you're well looked after. The lobby bar is small and charming, just right for a nightcap or drinks with friends after dinner. The location is excellent. The stairs below lead to an underground passage with great coffee cafes and food. If you're in TJ, stay here. You won't regret it. It could easily be on top hotel lists if it were in Venice, CA, or Palm Springs.

Though it's sold as a boutique hotel, the place felt more like a hostel to us. With such thin windows, we could hear all the outside noise, including people shouting outside our room until 3:00 AM. Skip it if you need a quiet night.

A cool little hotel with a really nice, accommodating staff. Fair warning, there are lots of stairs. We booked two rooms: one was larger and had a living room, but I switched it for a smaller one, so we ended up with two small rooms. The décor is great, though the room layouts don't make much sense. The big room's bathroom was tiny, which is why I moved. In that room, a pipe drained into the shower and I could hear it dripping constantly. The larger room was quiet, but the room I switched to was loud. They have white noise machines that block a lot of the street sound. My pet peeve is design that doesn't consider the guest, and this otherwise sweet little place in the middle of all the Tijuana action has a few of those issues. Would I stay again? Only if I had an event nearby.

We loved our weekend at Hotel Lafayette and are already talking about coming back soon. It’s easy to walk to loads of shops, restaurants, pharmacies, and grocery stores, and there’s a fun wine bar at the hotel. The room was spotless, the decor was really cute, and reception was always helpful and available. Being able to text reception through What'sApp made everything simple.
