Cabañas Playa Condesa Tulum

We arrived at 10 p.m., and Emilio was there to check us in. Jet lag had us up at 6 the next morning, but the sunrise view from our room looked like paradise. The room was clean and just what we expected. It can get warm with only a large ceiling fan, but that was enough to keep it cool for us. Everyone working here was friendly and tried to help make our stay great. Ask them for activity and food suggestions. A car or scooter can be useful since downtown Tulum isn’t very close, or you can rent bikes at the hotel for 300 pesos. One thing to know: the hotel is inside the national park, where plastic bottles of soda or water and alcohol aren’t allowed. Police check bags and cars. Nothing’s perfect, but this place came close for us.

We stayed in a room facing the beachfront and found the bed very comfortable. It was a nice break from the usual Tulúm crowds, and the staff were friendly. We enjoyed daytime drinks at the upper pool nest. We ate out during our two-day stay, so can’t comment on the food. Parking was free, but remember you have to pay the national park tourist tax each day you enter the area. We had a cold front over New Year’s, so the room was well ventilated. I can imagine it getting quite hot on a windless night at 28C.

We came for a quick meal before heading back to our condo, but spent an hour and a half waiting in a dim outdoor area. The food was mediocre and took over an hour even though the place wasn’t busy. Staff seemed apathetic. I can’t comment on the rooms or the rest of the hotel, but I’d avoid it if you want a good meal without a long wait.

A beautiful place by the water, with its own little rooftop pool. It’s halfway to the ruins, so it worked well for locking up my bike, having a drink or lunch, and walking along the beach to the ruins and back. Thanks, Freddy, for the great service and for making our day so good!
