Frater Yucatan Hotel

A handy, good-value little hotel for a short visit and a base for seeing Chichen Itza and the nearby cenotes. The rooms were clean and had big balconies, the location was great, and the staff were really friendly and helpful. I’d definitely recommend it.

We stayed one Friday night and only then found out there was a bar nearby playing incredibly loud music until 2 am. Nobody at the hotel had warned us. The sheets were stained, and when we asked for clean ones, the replacements were stained too. The reception staff were nice, but this is not a 4 star hotel.

I stayed a whole week and couldn’t have asked for a better place. The staff were young, friendly, and gave great service. The rooms were big and clean, and my balcony had a hammock looking out over the pool. Breakfast was included, well done, and served really well. There’s a bar close by with loud music late at night, though the hotel provides earplugs. At the other end of the street, the main town plaza is lively and fun. The historic convent is right across the way, with a great short video projected on its facade every night.

The Salon room was enormous for our two-night stay, with a spacious living room, bedroom, bathroom, and patio. There was room for more furniture, really, and four people could sleep comfortably with two in the bedroom and two on the sofa bed. The hotel itself is a small, new, clean design place with lovely Spanish and Yucatan decor. It sits beside a huge, quiet square with an open view of a convent, plus there's a sweet private courtyard with a pool. You can spend time out on the public square or relax in the courtyard with family or friends. I preferred this end of Calz. de Los Frailes. The street is beautiful, with Spanish-style buildings, restaurants, and shops, while the other end is busier and noisier, and its hotel rooms are smaller and older. Staff were very friendly in a warm small-town way. Not everyone spoke fluent English, but everyone was helpful. Breakfast has plenty of choices, all made to order. Highly recommended.
