Areca Hotel Penang

The breakfast was one of the best I had on my trip, with plenty of choices, and staff personally suggested dishes to everyone. The heritage rooms are beautiful and very spacious. It’s a little expensive, but I thought it was worth it. The staff were polite and helpful, and it’s a great fit for a two- or three-night stay.

The rooms were clean, with good beds and pillows, and the bathrooms were spotless. Staff were accommodating throughout, from reception to the person looking after tea time at the cafe. There are lots of must-try places to eat nearby, and other attractions are about a ten-minute walk away. Three-star hotel, five-star service.

Areca Hotel has wonderful staff and a convenient location, and we enjoyed our stay. A few things could be better: afternoon tea was disappointing, and one night the water pressure was very low. The toilet has little room for personal items. Some rooms may also be difficult for seniors, since getting to the toilet means using steep stairs.

We had a memorable stay at The Areca, and I hope to return, In Shaa Allah. The staff were attentive, friendly, and very helpful, and the room was cleaned. Since we’re senior guests, it would’ve been better if we’d been offered a ground-floor room, even though there is a lift. The room layout also has stairs between the bedroom and bathroom.
