The only real downside for me was having no window in the room. Otherwise, this budget hotel impressed me: it was clean, felt safe, and the Wi-Fi was dependable. The sheets and bed were clean, and the bathroom was good enough. The price was lower than nearby hotels, and the location is handy for walking to Chowrasta Market, Chulia Street, Penang Road, Campbell Street, and Kimberly Street. I had modest expectations for the rate, so I wasn't looking for four- or five-star service.

The AC could have been a little stronger, but everything else was spot on. Our room was clean and could be tidied on any day we wanted, and it was generally quiet. Staff were always polite, too. It's well priced and in a decent location if you're happy to explore George Town's sights on foot.

Booked through Agoda, and the place matched what was shown online. It was neat and clean, felt safe, and was in a good location, very close to Armenian Street, a great Penang attraction. There are plenty of bars, restaurants, and food stalls nearby.

We arrived at night after booking through Agoda, and only then did we learn the hotel was fully booked. The receptionist said our reservation wasn't in their system, and the manager didn't take the problem seriously either. Our refund is still taking more than two weeks. Reviews suggest this has happened to other people who booked here too. I strongly don't recommend booking this hotel.

The room was really spacious, with one double bed and one single. It had a TV, fridge, kettle, mini safe, hair blower, and coffee. The rates at Islander lodge are among the best in town, and it's an easy walk to Penang's best street food area. There's no car park, though. I'd come back.
