The location is handy for food and nearby attractions, and the price is good value. I had a pleasant stay at Ropewalk as a solo traveler and would consider returning. The check-in was quick and smooth, and the staff were helpful and friendly. My dorm was tidy, clean, and comfortable, with fresh linens and a bed that felt secure and quiet at night. Each bed has its own light and power socket. The shared bathrooms were clean and well maintained, with good water pressure. There’s a comfortable common area for relaxing or charging devices, and the WiFi was fast and steady enough for work or browsing. I’d recommend this reliable, clean, budget-friendly hostel.
There’s no kitchen or fridge, but the hot water works, and there are lots of tables and two couches for eating, relaxing, or focusing. The place is central, quiet, colorful, and feels safe and refreshing. It’s social too, with a few world travelers and street artists around, and street food stalls very close by. It’s super cheap if you book online for at least 3 nights, or walk in for 8 nights. If you booked online, you should ask for a lower bed, possibly by the second day. I don’t know what the old low reviews were about. Be here!
The hostel itself is super clean, and Robert, the cleaner, does a thorough job. Still, I got very sick in the female dorm, where the AC was full of mold. After the first night I felt weak and unwell, with a badly sore throat. After two nights I’d lost my voice and started spitting blood. The room was very cold, and the workers only raised the temperature after the third night. Once I changed places, my voice came back. I now know that a moldy, uncleaned AC can be dangerous for health. I also met another girl who left the hostel because she got sick due to the AC. I think you might be fine if you stay far from it, but if you’re sensitive to AC like I am, skip this place.
The reception staff were cheerful and very friendly, and the place was good value for the price. The room was decent for a guesthouse, and the water system worked very well. The bathroom’s dark colors made it seem less clean than it really was. I stayed with a friend, but the blanket was too small, and the extra one we asked for was thin too. If you want somewhere spotless, I’d suggest a hotel instead.
The bathrooms are very old and poorly kept, and they’re far from the rooms. The lockers are outside the room too. Mixed dorms are packed with beds, and the AC gets switched off in the morning. The common area is the coffee shop, so it doesn’t feel very social, and most guests were middle aged. For the price, I think you should stay somewhere else, like The 60. I paid 25 myr per night at both hostels. One useful thing is that they provide detergent and a brush for washing clothes by hand in the sink. The bathroom is kind of outdoors, on an open air balcony. Tip: book when you arrive instead of ahead. They offered 3 nights for 56 myr, but because I’d already booked one night through hostel world, I couldn’t get the deal. The receptionist then tried to charge me even more than I’d paid on hostelworld for a 2 night extension. Be aware.
