The apartment was clean and comfortable, though the quality seems to depend on the unit and host. Ours was friendly and quick to respond. Planes come in low over the building as they land at KKIA, but the noise wasn’t too bad compared with places near Imago. JQ Homestay’s location is its strongest point: close to the city center, Gaya Street, and the island-hopping pier, with lots of food choices and convenience stores right downstairs. The facilities are pretty basic, so keep expectations modest. The gym has just four or five treadmills and one exercise machine, in both Tower 1 and Tower 2. The pool is small and plain, and the lift lobbies and parking floors could be better maintained.

We stayed as two families in the Seaview 3 bedroom apartment. Check-in was straightforward, even though we arrived early, and the pool was great. Restaurants and laundromats are nearby, and it’s an easy walk to local shopping and jesselton dock for island trips. Grab drivers know the place, so getting a car was easy.

There’s plenty of space in the room, and the location and facilities are great. But the suite smelled strongly of stale cigarette smoke when we arrived, especially the bathroom. I contacted the 24/7 customer service on WhatsApp right away and got ignored. They later sent check-in instructions without addressing it. After I complained again, they said someone would inspect the room, but nobody came during our three-day stay. The ceiling fan also had mould, and the shower selector for the rainfall setting was snapped. The switch had been placed neatly off to the side, so they seemed to know about it.

The room was spacious and clean, but getting in was a mess. Homesuites gave us the wrong lockbox code, and the instructions weren’t clear. We spent nearly an hour trying to pry it open, and I even broke a nail. Customer service didn’t answer our call, though they did reply to our WhatsApp message. If you arrive without internet, think twice about booking, since the codes they send might be wrong. Maple home at least has a reception desk on the ground floor. I can’t speak to the quality of its rooms, but you wouldn’t have to run around trying to crack a code just to get your key.

The property was beautiful, clean, and felt safe, with no bad or musty smell. Follow the check-in instructions carefully. I spotted a small patch of mould on the ceiling and let management know.
