Quiik Cat Mini-Hotel

You get a clean, comfortable place right by the waterfront, with loads of food nearby. The family who runs it are really kind and helpful. The road outside can be a bit noisy, though it wasn't too bad for us. A solid budget pick for backpackers.

KD made the stay for me. She was welcoming even before I arrived, and so caring and personable once I was there. That kind of hospitality can be hard to find. The hostel is also a great base for Kuching: it's central, clean, and within walking distance of restaurants and the waterfront. Bako, Kubah, Sapit, Wetlands, and more are easy to explore from here. There are clean bathrooms, hot showers, a shared kitchen, soft blankets, towels, air conditioning, and clean rooms. As a solo traveler, I found it easy to meet people to spend time with, and guests came from all over, including some long-term travelers. I'd happily stay here again.

The location made it easy to get around Kuching, with museums and city sights within walking distance and the main bus stand about 10 minutes away for trips to Bako, Semenggoh, caves, and more. KD and her family work hard to keep the hostel clean and make sure guests have what they need. There's drinking water, drip coffee, and roti available, plus a kitchen for small meals. Cheap nasi Campur is nearby too. Good wifi, hot water, and room to exercise. Thanks again, I'll be back.

We stayed in an upstairs double room with a window. The air con was cold enough, there were a few outlets by the bed, and towels, a hair dryer at reception, and a water dispenser were available. But the bathroom was quite worn, the room near the toilet smelled a bit, and the double bed had a small, thin blanket. At night, motorcycles were very loud, and we heard rats on the roof and outside the window. It wasn't comfortable for me, so we moved to another place.
