Mostyn Hotel by Oyo Rooms

The broken bidet wasn’t a major issue since they gave us a diaper and bucket as alternatives, but the other problems made our stay disappointing. We were in room 207, the hotel’s largest and most luxurious room, so I expected more, especially since I’d stayed here before and hoped they’d addressed earlier shortcomings. The room smelled unpleasant when we arrived. We ended up buying our own Dettol spray and opening a window to air it out. The sheets also had yellow stains, and the room didn’t feel properly cleaned. The water heater didn’t work at all, and it needed professional attention rather than us trying to fix it ourselves. The soap and other bathroom items were far below what I expected. They also didn’t provide things like a heater, home phone, or instant beverages. The hospitality was horrible. I hope they take feedback like this seriously and improve their service.

The bed was comfortable, and there was hot water for the shower. But the hotel had a damp smell from reception all the way to the room, which was bearable but shouldn’t be there. Our room didn’t seem to have had a thorough clean: the floor was dusty, the bathroom was wet, and the bed linens were worn out. The bidet hose had holes, so using it sprayed the walls and got me wet. They had soap, but it was well below standard. We also couldn’t get an extra pillow while the hotel was almost full, though I’m not sure whether that would be different when it’s less busy. Cleanliness is the main thing they need to improve for guests looking for a staycation.

I’ve stayed here twice and had a good experience both times. It’s a budget friendly hotel near Pekan Kunak.

A clean, basic budget hotel with friendly staff. It worked well for a short stopover, and there’s plenty of outdoor parking. Eateries and convenience stores are within walking distance.
