V'la Heritage Melaka

We booked a superior double with its own bathroom, and everything was okay. The hotel was clean, supplied towels and soap, and had friendly staff. It's really close to jonker street, which I liked. There's also a river cafe at the back of the hotel. We did hear some noise near our room on the first floor now and then.

The location was good and the place was fairly clean, but we got two single beds despite booking a double. There was no Wi-Fi, and the walls were so thin we could hear everything. The riverside patio furniture was all over the place, and someone slept there overnight. On the second floor, 22 people were sharing three bathrooms, one of which had a door that wasn't attached. Two holes in our room ceiling would sometimes spray water. The staff weren't very friendly, and it didn't seem like anyone wanted to improve the place. Maybe it's fine for backpackers.

The riverside cafe is quaint, though overpriced, and it's easy to get around the city from here. The place was cute, clean and air-conditioned, with warm showers if you wanted one. The rooms off the hall aren't very soundproof, so an inconsiderate guest up at 5am will have you awake too.

My AC was broken, so they gave me a portable one the night before. I asked if it would leak and the coworker said it wouldn't, but my clothes ended up completely soaked. Only the Indian lady at the front desk spoke English well. The rest spoke very poorly, especially on the phone, and were hard to understand. Parking is a big problem if you're travelling by car, and police were everywhere issuing tickets. Overall, 3/10.
