GM Hotel Sunway Metro

The hotel is close to the mall and hospital, and the late-night frontliner was fairly informative. The afternoon receptionist, though, wasn’t friendly at all: no hello or thank you, just sighing. They gave me only one room card, and asking for another meant an extra charge, RM 50 if I remember right. Breakfast at abc resto was disappointing too. I ordered nasi lemak, but it came with just rice, chili and a tiny portion of kacang tanah, no protein at all.

The location makes it very good for exploring, and the service team really tried, so things went smoothly. The rooms and hallways are a little run down, though still clean and visibly used, which is reflected in the price. Also, the main room door lets in a lot of hallway noise, which could get annoying if you want to sleep in.

The room was clean, but there was engine noise around the clock, maybe from an outdoor air-conditioning unit. The hotel itself feels old, especially the hallway carpet. Its location is good, right across the street from Sunway Pyramid. Downstairs there’s a food-court-style coffee shop that’s busy in the morning, with nasi kandar, toast, fried noodles and more. I paid around RM 170 through Agoda in July 2025. There’s also a 24-hour KFC and a 7 eleven around the hotel.

The hotel is in a very strategic location, but the facilities need better quality control, especially mattresses and beds. There should also be coordination with nearby owners so guests can be warned about renovations, along with more professional staff. I stayed five days to visit my children, who study at Monas Uni and Sunway College. On the first morning, disruptive construction and drilling sounded as if it was right above my head. I reported it, and a male receptionist handled it nicely. I also mentioned that a metal bed coil was sticking out and scratched my daughter's leg. On the third morning the drilling started again. This time a female receptionist was rude: she hung up when I called. When I called back, she told me to come down instead of asking my room number and promising to call later. Downstairs, she kept interrupting and talking over me rather than listening, even after another female staff member wearing hijab told her to be quiet. On the morning I checked out, I offered a suggestion and asked if she knew about Google reviews. Instead of apologizing, she interrupted again and talked at length, eventually saying she had no problem with me posting this. So I’m writing it while I wait for my flight. The female staff member wearing hijab offered me a different room. I checked that its bed was safe and that it was farther from the construction before accepting. Two male staff members were also very helpful, with good attitudes and communication skills.
