The villa was clean, spacious and well maintained, and the people were friendly, helpful and quick to respond. Breakfast was basic but enjoyable and enough. We liked the stay as a family, and it exceeded our expectations compared with similar places we’ve tried in West Malaysia. We did have a couple of gripes: the altitude was relatively low, so it wasn’t as cool as we’d hoped for in the mountains, and there were no bedroom curtains, so we woke with the sunrise.

The reception staff were super friendly and gave us a free upgrade. The food at the restaurant was delicious, and breakfast was fantastic. The waterfall hike is beautiful, and the hot springs were relaxing. A private tub costs 10 Rigits and you can fill it as you like, while the cool rock pools are free. Staying overnight at Sutera lets you use the pools after closing, when they feel even more relaxed. We had climbers’ tags from the previous day, so we didn’t have to pay park entrance fees.

A lovely family outing. The wilderness and hot springs are amazing, and December weather is especially nice. Evenings are cool, and the pools or hot springs are inviting for an afternoon dip.

There’s private parking right outside the spacious room, which was very convenient. Poring Hot Spring and Rainforest Restaurant are easy to get to, and a night walk turned up some interesting insects. Bees and other bugs can fly into the room, but that’s pretty normal when you’re staying in the rainforest. I just didn’t have time to enjoy Poring Hot Spring or Souvenir Shop, as they closed earlier at 3pm.

After a strenuous hike up Mount Kinabalu, we had a wonderful stay here. The staff were attentive and very helpful. Definitely recommend it.
