We stayed in the room themed around Admiral Michael de Ruyter, and the whole hotel is beautifully done. Staff were kind and helpful, and having food brought up to the room was a nice bonus. There’s also a private spa room with a sauna, steam room, bathtub and jet shower. We only found out too late that it was included in our booking, so we missed it on one of our two days. The stairs to get there aren't suitable for everyone, and there’s no lift. Still, we had a great stay and I’d recommend it.

The staff made us feel so celebrated. When they heard we’d gotten engaged, they surprised us with chocolates, and their warmth and thoughtfulness really stayed with me. Even the other guests added to the welcoming feeling throughout the hotel. We loved the little rituals, too. Breakfast came with a mini bottle of champagne each morning, and the hotel’s beautiful signature scent was so memorable that we bought two bottles to take home. Smelling it still brings us back to our first trip to Amsterdam, which we shared as a couple and now look back on as newly engaged. This is the nicest hotel I’ve stayed in, and our time there gave us memories we’ll keep for a long time.

The room was gorgeous, with so many thoughtful little touches, and breakfast was delicious. We also loved the quiet canal street outside, which was lovely for photos, even though the hotel is well placed for getting around to everything. The building’s history and the person our room was named after were fascinating. The staff knew the place well and made check-in both welcoming and easy. Finding this hotel made our mini-moon in Amsterdam feel just right. We can’t wait to return for our first anniversary.

The rooms are all individually designed and full of character, and breakfast delivered to the room was a welcome treat. After walking around town all day, the spa and sauna tucked downstairs were a great place to unwind. Just remember to book them. There’s no gym or restaurant, but plenty of other places nearby cover that. The hotel sits on the west side of the city beside the “9 streets” shopping area, with easy access to the rest of Amsterdam. I’ve visited many times and was glad to come across this charming little hotel.

There was a lot to like here: the breakfast was tasty, both the wet and dry saunas were great, and the staff were warm and attentive. I also enjoyed hearing about the building’s history. The care given to its 1600s origins shows in the details around the property. Our room looked lovely when we arrived, but in practice it felt cramped. With two large suitcases and two smaller ones, it was hard to move around comfortably. Even so, we had a very enjoyable stay, and the service and thoughtful amenities made it memorable.
