Royal Plaza Hotel Amsterdam

We left after the first night, once we woke up and saw just how filthy the room was. It was tiny, with barely any room to move, and there was blood smeared on the floor and curtains in the photos I attached. The staff were rude when we checked out and made sure to tell me there would be no refund. They also said everywhere in Amsterdam was like that. I’m sure you could find somewhere cleaner for less. Worst hotel I’ve ever been to, and I'd give it zero stars if I could.

The room and bathroom weren't clean, and there was a strong smell of marijuana and tobacco. The elevator was extremely cramped and its buttons barely worked, which added to an uncomfortable stay. What made the visit feel unwelcoming from the start was the reception. We dealt with two different staff members, one yesterday and one today, and neither was friendly. At check-in and check-out they seemed annoyed by questions and showed little interest in helping. When we asked to leave our luggage, one receptionist just said, “Leave them there, but we are not responsible for anything,” and didn't even say goodbye. Neither had the courtesy to say hello or welcome us. I don't usually write hotel reviews, but I don't want anyone else to be treated this way during a visit to Amsterdam. I wouldn't recommend it.

The location was great, but the area felt rough and not right for a woman on her own. Inside, the hotel was disappointing too. The stairs were dangerously steep, and we had to take them because the elevator didn't reach our floor. The carpet was dirty and torn enough to feel hazardous. Our room was so small that one of us had to climb over the end of the bed to get out. There wasn't space for a suitcase, so we had to keep it in the bathroom. The bed was made each day, but the sheets were damp on the first day and had clumps of hair on them the next. The air freshener in the rooms was so strong it made us gag at night. Reception staff were average, neither especially professional nor friendly. I wouldn't stay here again. It’s a budget hotel, but the savings aren't worth it. I've stayed in much better youth hostels for far less.

We checked out after just a couple of hours without staying, and wouldn't recommend this hotel. Its name and photos are very misleading. The room was tiny, with nowhere to put suitcases. Floors were disgusting, the walls had coffee stains, and the mattress was vile when we pulled back the sheets. The lobby coffee machine was covered in flies and looked like it hadn't been cleaned in a long time. Although the rooms are marked non-smoking, the smell of smoke was strong throughout the second floor. At check-in, the receptionist was standing in the doorway smoking and barely moved to let us in. Sorry there are no photos, we left before thinking to take any.
