Crown Inn Hotel Eindhoven

The location is great, just a short walk from the central station. I left before breakfast; takeaway breakfast boxes are available if requested, but I skipped one because breakfast was quite pricey. The room I was given clearly hadn’t been cleaned after the previous guest. The bed was unmade, the soaps had been used, rubbish was still in the bins, and there were excrement stains in the toilet. None of the rooms had a toilet brush for cleaning up, which wasn’t surprising given the state of things. The receptionist was helpful and found alternatives, but after looking at several rooms it became clear the whole second floor hadn’t been cleaned. He said this happened regularly. Eventually he found me a clean room on another floor, and it was an upgrade from the one I’d booked.

The central location is the one real plus, but I didn’t think the hotel was worth the money. It was hard to get around inside: you take the lift, then still have stairs, and some rooms involve a lot of them. Our key cards stopped working every day, so we had to get them renewed at the help desk. The fire alarm also went off twice, both times as a false alarm. The place felt old and not very clean. The furniture and bathroom were dated, and there was a mark on our bed that I imagine was blood. The windows couldn’t be opened, which made the room feel a bit claustrophobic. Nobody cleaned the room or replaced our used towels. The food wasn’t worth the price either, with little choice.

The location was the only convenient part of our stay. The staff were kind, but none of the problems we mentioned got fixed, so they weren’t much help. We waited 40 minutes for someone to come to reception, and when they arrived, we weren’t even given a key card. Each time we wanted to get back into the room, staff had to let us in. It was freezing in the room. The AC wouldn’t warm it up, and the workers said they couldn’t repair it. We weren’t offered another room. The carpet looked like it had never been cleaned, and we didn’t feel comfortable there.

The room was fairly okay and the bed seemed clean, though the carpet looked like it hadn’t been shampooed in years. I’d rate it higher if a receptionist hadn’t walked into my room at 03:40, thinking it was empty. The same guy had checked someone in earlier. I spoke with another receptionist later that morning, but got no compensation. Even with the good location, I can’t recommend it.
