The suite was lovely, with a spotless room, a great view, and a roomy bathroom. We’d only booked one night and were upgraded from a standard room. The young woman at reception was so kind and helpful, and the hotel has great amenities. It did get noisy, with sounds from the hallway and Vrijthof, which is understandable. The price felt pretty steep, though.

The spa massages were superb, and the rooms were beautiful and very clean. It’s easy to explore from here, with central Maastricht’s main sights about a 5-15 minute walk away and lovely views of the basilica, st. Jan’s church and the square. The old building still has its original charm and feels luxurious. Just be aware the walls are thin, so you can hear people in their rooms and moving through the halls.

The noise was a real problem, since the hotel is beside a large square where events can continue until midnight. There’s also no air conditioning in some rooms, so keep that in mind for a summer visit. After reception closes at 6 PM, the late check-in directions aren’t clear. We had to work out how to enter and locate our key ourselves, which took a while. And with all the stairs and no help available, I wouldn’t suggest bringing large luggage here.

My mom and I came from America to Europe for the first time and wanted to spend a night in Maastricht. We asked for a double room at about 10:00, but couldn’t check in until 15:00, which was a little frustrating. Then we were shown to the Superior Apartment, as we’d been upgraded, and were shocked in a good way. I also had a really relaxing Gua sha facial during our stay.
