Pastis

The staff were excellent, gentle, attentive and caring. The room itself was tiny, with cobwebs, wallpaper stains and almost no power sockets. The hotel feels very old and rickety, the view was awful, and there’s no elevator. It was noisy too. Despite what the ads say, it’s a 20-minute walk to the city center. There are no hotel parking spaces, so be ready to get up early to pay for parking. Breakfast was expensive for the quality of the food.

We had the top-floor apartment, with two large rooms, a kitchen, a bathroom and a sunny balcony overlooking the quiet gardens behind the surrounding buildings. From there, we could see St Pieter Fort on the hill. The coffee machine was excellent, grinding fresh beans and making pressure-brewed coffee, with a steamer too. Our hosts were very nice and accommodating. A lovely lady brought a superb breakfast in a basket: homemade bread rolls and croissants, homemade jams, fruit salad, yogurt, cereal, cheese, meats and humous. It’s a really nice place in a great location, with a short scenic walk to the center.

We love this place. Many rooms have been redecorated and look even better than in the pictures. The decor is beautiful, and the staff are incredibly welcoming and helpful.

The breakfast was fantastic, with tasty choices and lots of options for dietary restrictions. Warm, friendly staff served it in a comfortable setting and made sure we were well looked after. We loved the vine climbing the front of the building, with young grapes hanging from it, and the cozy balcony in our room. The Pastis has comfortable beds, good facilities and quality fixtures, with a tasteful rustic look and an interesting layout. It’s easy to reach, just outside the city walls, and there’s street parking at a reasonable price. A few late-night pedestrians heading home up the hill can be heard, so light sleepers who need total silence may want to close the well-glazed windows.
