Hotel Oorsprongpark

The service was very pleasant, and the location is great. It’s a cozy, comfortable hotel with a charming Dutch style.

The rooms are small but comfortable and functional, pretty much what you’d expect in a traditional Dutch building. Mine smelled a bit musty and could’ve used more airing out, though the shower pressure was good and the hot water kept coming. Hotel Oorsprongpark is among Utrecht’s more affordable options, out on the eastern edge of town. Public transport makes it easy to get to. I enjoyed my stay and have no complaints for the price I paid.

The bed was very comfortable, and the location is great. The interiors are simple but have some character, and the hotel is relatively cheap. Still, it wasn’t very clean, there was no shampoo, and the soap looked and smelled like dishwashing liquid. Breakfast was quite bad, and noise carried through the walls.

In a few words, I’d pass. It has dorm vibes. I booked at the last minute after my plans changed, when most hotels were already full, so this was one of the few available. The room and breakfast area had a nice view of the park, and it was quiet. The shower had good pressure and temperature, and there were plenty of outlets. But it felt like a dated 1970s or 80s student dorm in the UK. I lived in one, so I know, sorry. The room had only the basics and didn’t try to be nice, with a mix of old built-in furniture and basic IKEA pieces. There was obvious water damage on the walls. Even for someone in their 20s, getting around was difficult. At least our room wasn’t accessible for older or disabled guests because of the extremely steep stairs. It didn’t feel especially clean either. The floor was fully carpeted, there were washed-out stains on the sheets, and dirt behind the TV. The twin bed had two VERY thin mattresses, and there was a nightstand on only one side. The bathroom was tiny, the fan noisy, and the lighting incredibly dim. The place seems to have some history, but it wasn’t a memorable experience. At €177 a night, including two very passable breakfasts, with the room alone costing €155, I wouldn’t recommend it unless, like me, you urgently need somewhere to stay and don’t have many alternatives.
