Arushi Boutique Hotel

The room smelled really unpleasant, and the old, uncomfortable mattress seemed long overdue for replacement. The staff were unfriendly and dismissive, which made dealing with them unpleasant. I had initially booked two nights, then cancelled after being clearly told there would be no problem. When I arrived, though, I was told the hotel had already charged my card for both nights. They just said “sorry.” I found the whole thing rude, dishonest, and extremely unprofessional. I’d strongly advise avoiding Aeushi Hotel.

I got a good deal during the Black Friday discounts and upgraded to the Penthouse suite on floor 8 for not much more than another room. It was lovely and very spacious, with a separate bath and shower. The balcony seating was also a great spot to sit in the afternoons. I’d stay here again if I return to Katmandu, especially since there are lots of places to eat nearby. There were a couple of things to know. The shower’s hot water was unreliable, though running the sink’s hot tap for a while first seemed to help. I forgot to tell reception about it. Also, music from other hotels was very loud on floor 8 and continued until 2 or 3am on all three nights. You couldn’t hear it near the hotel entrance downstairs, and it wasn’t coming from Arushi. I didn’t raise it with the hotel because I couldn’t see what they could do. It didn’t bother me, but it might affect a light sleeper. I’m guessing a lower floor would be fine.

The room was okay, but there wasn’t a mirror anywhere except the toilet. There was basically nothing besides water, no snacks, and the shower didn’t work. The lights weren’t even proper. They still make you pay about 4k Nepali money, and it really wasn’t worth it. Worst experience ever.

After our 14-day trek from Everest Base Camp and Chola Pass, we were glad to find somewhere quiet to rest. The hotel is set back from the busy main roads, but it’s still convenient to get around. The rooms were clean, spacious, and well laid out, and the hot showers gave us room to unwind after the trail. Breakfast covered the basics and was satisfying. We especially enjoyed the fresh fruit and juice bar. The staff were attentive and friendly, and made us feel welcome while communicating our needs was easy.
