Indreni organic farm and homestay - Hostel

We found Indreni last month and were delighted by this gem so close to Lakeside in Pokhara. We stayed in one of the farm’s magical earthen structures, and the location, staff, and accommodations all exceeded our expectations. The farm sits in a surreal landscape with plenty of ways to explore and hike. The agriculture work here is impressive. I’d definitely recommend it to anyone after a real farm stay.

Indreni Farm is a developing agroforestry orchard, bringing many useful and edible plants together to create a sustainable ecological production center for food, fuel, fodder, medicine, lumber, and other benefits to nature. It’s still being developed and maintained, and volunteers can help with watering, mulching, transplanting, planting, and other farm activities. The tree nursery also supports a larger distribution program across Pame Valley to sequester CO2 as a climate change mitigation effort. The farm is an income generation project for Rainbow Childrens Home in Lakeside Pokhara, which provides educational support to children from disadvantaged families. Money spent on rooms and food helps support this charitable cause. There’s a kitchen guests can use, a large meeting area being built for trainings or programs, and accommodation for about 20 people. It’s a good place to get away from the city for days, weeks, or even months. From Lakeside Pokhara, it’s about 40 minutes by bus to Pame Bazaar, then about a half-hour walk above the bazaar. The food is delicious, the people are friendly, and there are interesting young Nepali agriculture student volunteers. There are fun farm activities, forest walks, pretty views, a grand waterfall for swimming, earthen buildings, and more. Consider visiting this hidden jewel. It’s a great project to support.

The rooms were dirty and management was poor. When we complained, the owner was very rude and seemed to think we were going to fight with her. Guests should be able to raise concerns when they’re not satisfied. She told us not to come back and just to pay and leave, even though we were only hoping for a discount because we hadn’t received what we wanted. Think twice before going, and confirm the process first.

A nice way to step away from Pokhara for a while and enjoy some calm. The waterfall nearby is a truly magical spot. 🌟🌸🌞⛰🌈
