Westwood Lodge

The lodge has a lovely layout and could be a great place, which made our stay all the more disappointing. Maintenance seemed years behind, and service was poor. We were there for two nights, saw almost no staff and had no bedroom cleaning. Breakfast was the only included extra. It was OK, but uninspired. With the price still at a premium, it's a shame the maintenance and service haven't kept up with the potential.

The bed was comfortable, the room was large, and the patio had a great view. But the room was dark, it wasn't serviced, and the place felt far too expensive for what you got. The so-called free breakfast was dismal, with very few hot choices. One chipolata for five guests to share, plus one apple and one orange sliced up, hardly seemed worth offering. It was pretty empty while the rest of town was full, which didn't surprise me. This overpriced BnB needs someone to show it some love.

After a long day, settling by the lounge fire with tea and a book was lovely. The bed felt luxurious, the shower was amazing, and even the toiletries were great. It's a beautiful, peaceful place. There's no bar, but guests are welcome to bring a bottle of wine into the lounge. Breakfast was really nice, and the staff were wonderful, friendly and helpful with local activities and places to eat.

The hotel is about 2 km from the main village, and I'd happily stay there again. I spent two nights in the main lodge, though there are cabins too. It's an outdoorsy, log-walled place with a nice fireplace going in the main lodge. My room was fairly large, with a patio, balcony and private sliding glass door. The staff were attentive. Breakfast was good, with a full English and all the trimmings, plus fruit, juices, yogurt and pastries.
