The spa was so good, and the outdoor pool and spa area was tidy, with plants that made it feel like an oasis. The kids happily played in the pool. Our large spa suite was spotless, with nice decor and a good layout, and both the couch and bed were really comfortable. Tea, coffee and milk were supplied. The rest of the property was well maintained, and reception had novelty ice creams and a few basic snacks and groceries for sale. We saw the Locals Sunday night stay ad on Facebook and booked some time away from our busy home. Hannah was lovely from my first message through the booking call, and meeting her in person was just as pleasant. She made us feel welcome and the whole place inviting. We didn’t get to try the cooked breakfasts because the chef was off over Easter, but that didn’t bother us. We’ll definitely stay again. Thanks, Hannah and whanau, for the wonderful hospitality.

We’ve been returning to this motel for a long time, even though we live locally, because the service used to be exceptional. It always felt welcoming and family-friendly, and the pool and spa were a big part of why we came back with young children. We understand noise rules and being considerate of other guests. This visit, under new management, was very different. At about 8pm we were still by the pool and had already asked our children to keep their voices down. A staff member came out and asked us to be quiet. That was fine, and we told her we’d already spoken to the kids. Then she pointed at my daughter and said, “especially that one.” My daughter was already upset and crying, and the remark made it worse. It was unnecessary and disrespectful. I stayed briefly to help settle my children, who were booked in with their aunt visiting from out of town. I acknowledge that I parked in the wrong space and apologised. Still, staff confronted my older daughter and accused her of being disrespectful, which is completely out of character for her. When I explained that my children were paying guests staying with family and that we were just settling them, I was told, “you ain’t paying customers.” I explained we were long-time returning guests, but the response remained dismissive. Most concerning was the staff member’s attempt to justify what had happened by saying, “it’s because they’re Asians.” That was completely inappropriate and unacceptable. We’ve never experienced anything like this here before, which is deeply disappointing after all these years. Sadly, we won’t be coming back.

The room was spacious, very clean and comfortable, with air conditioning and a great bed. The swimming pool was lovely and clean too. This is a quiet little motel and excellent value for money. The phone service from Thelma was extremely top rate, and Hillary at reception was just as good. We’ll stay here next year when we return from Australia. Thanks, Motel Oasis, for a lovely stay.

Motel oasis came through for our family when a storm wrecked our campsite and we were about to spend the night in the car. Our family rang to say they’d found us last-minute accommodation. I’m so grateful to the motel for fitting us in. It’s good to know there are still people with old-school values. Thank you so much. The room was spacious, quiet and clean. It was super clean when we arrived, and the bed was perfectly made. There’s a TV in the left-hand corner, though I only realised later that it wasn’t in the photos. The motel is within walking distance of the beach, with town a short drive away. It’s on the main road, but we couldn’t hear the traffic. The pool was clean too, though I forgot to take a photo. The photos were taken later, just before we checked out.

The rooms were peaceful, and the air conditioning was properly cold during those 35° days. We also made good use of the clean, heated pool and spa pool, and there were enough towels and bedding. Sponge Bay Beach is about a 15-minute walk or a two-minute drive, while Gisborne City Centre is two minutes away by car. Check the details for the room you book, since some have a dishwashing sink and some don’t. Really enjoyed our stay, highly recommend.
