The little spa was such a lovely extra, and it was kept in beautiful condition. Eric and Karen were warm and welcoming, and made it easy to switch off and enjoy being there. The food was delicious, too, and clearly made with care. Waipua Lodge feels special. Every room and corner seemed thoughtfully put together, right down to the small details. We felt at home the whole time and would gladly return.

Dinner was excellent, maybe the best we had on the trip, and the service was kind and thoughtful. Waipoua Lodge is also a convenient stop when visiting Hokianga Harbour, just south of it if you drive through the waipoua forest. The website photos don't quite capture it. The house is beautiful, surrounded by lush green gardens that are great for lounging, and the accommodation is both stylish and very comfortable.

Karen and Eric had thought of all the little extras that made us feel welcome. Our room was lovely, with a veranda looking out over the garden, and we were sorry to leave after just two nights. If you're visiting the 3rd largest tree in the world, this is a must stop. We wished we could have added a few days to relax and unwind in the peaceful surroundings.

The lodge is pretty isolated, which makes it a great place to do nothing in beautiful surroundings and complete comfort. I would have loved another day on one of the decks with a book and their excellent little wine list. One night wasn't nearly enough. Our experience matched what other reviewers had said, and this was one of the highlights of our visit to NZ. I'll remember it for a long time.

The grounds are a real highlight, with beautiful scenery and even a bush walk of its own. The rooms are spacious and have everything needed, and Karen and Eric were wonderful hosts who took care of us. The food was good as well. Waipoua Lodge is a lovely hotel in a great setting near the kauri trees, and I highly recommend it.
