On The Point - Lake Rotorua

The cottage was private and beautifully furnished, and the hotel’s location is stunning. There was a lot to like, but being asked to pay by the hour when we requested just one extra hour before checkout really disappointed us. We’d let the nonworking hot tub and the other minor issues go without complaint. At $2000 a night, that checkout charge felt petty and spoiled what could have been a lovely stay. Service and small gestures matter if you want guests to return. Rosewood gave us a four-hour checkout extension, far more than we’d asked for, and we’ll go back there.

We had incredible views from our pretty room, and the restaurant was a great option after our action-packed days. The food was good enough that we didn’t feel a need to go out, unless we wanted an adventure. The bathroom was a little dated, and USB or USB-C outlets would have been useful, though they do provide adapters. There’s also a cute playhouse and donkeys on the property, with that beautiful view all around. Nicki, Ian and Angelina made every day feel special. They were so kind, helpful and accommodating, and their hospitality went above and beyond.

Our room was huge and had everything we needed. I’d suggest asking for a second-floor room if you can, since we could hear children running around upstairs. We loved spending time by the lake, listening to the birds, and feeding the sheep, donkeys and ponies. Getting into town was easy too, with Uber taking about 10 minutes. Niki looked after us at breakfast each morning and checked in about our plans and how things were going in Rotorua and at the lodge. The staff were so attentive, and she was a big part of why we had such a lovely stay. Breakfast was great for such an intimate lodge, and dinner there one night was amazing. Beautiful setting and location. We’ll definitely be back!

We celebrated my husband’s 50th birthday here in December 2024 and treated ourselves to the main suite. It felt like staying in a royal residence. The room, grounds, food and service were all wonderful, and the peace and quiet made it feel perfect. Breakfast was delicious, with a great selection and gorgeous views from our private balcony. Every staff member was professional, friendly and attentive. The donkeys were lovely to feed, and the taxi arrangements were seamless. We hired a taxi from Auckland airport and back, as well as rides to Hobbiton. I miss this beautiful hotel and would return in a heartbeat. Thank you for making the birthday so memorable, we’ll always remember it.
