We had a spacious hard-standing pitch, and our 6m van backed in easily with the rear doors still accessible. It may have been one of the better spots, as we’d booked two nights. The bathrooms were clean, with lovely hot water and good shower pressure. The facilities aren’t the newest or fanciest, but had everything we needed for camping. The herb and veggie gardens, pizza oven fired up every other night, and hot tubs with cosy towels were highlights. When we called ahead to book a tub, we got a handy tip that Nonnas bakery in town sells part-cooked pizza bases. Mike is genuinely lovely, and he and his wife have clearly put a lot of care into the place. He even checked whether we’d found the heating switch when he saw us resting in the TV room. Little touches like that made this the most helpful and genuine campsite of our South Island loop, which we visited near the end. Two nights still didn’t feel like enough. It was lovely to see people running a site with such passion and care.
