Tiki Lodge Bar & Restaurant - Hostel

We liked the rooms, which are nearly new and nicely arranged, and the small pool turned out to be just right for us. The breakfast menu has only three choices, though the very good service made it easy to ask for a little variation. Even though the hotel is right on the main road in the city center, the rooms sit farther back and stay quiet. The staff were lovely and the service was great. We spent two nights here and would gladly come back.

The dish of the day was so good that I was sure I’d misunderstood the price. It looked like something that might cost close to $20, but it was only $7. The value absolutely stunned me. They could easily charge two or three times as much. I first met one of the owners in the morning while she was walking her dogs to bravas, then came back to try lunch. Much love from Aus.

We waited a long time for the food, though it was tasty, and the restaurant is otherwise a really nice place. The confusing part was how my meal was handled. They had run out of rice and changed my fish dish, adding teriyaki sauce even though I’d specifically asked for no sauce at all to be safe. Teriyaki usually contains soy sauce, which has gluten. After we’d paid, the discussion was still going back and forth. At first no one mentioned the sauce or whether it was gluten-free. Someone checked with the kitchen and assured me it was, but then staff seemed unsure and tried to explain that soy sauce doesn’t contain gluten. I’d already trusted them and eaten the dish by then. The staff also came across as impatient and unfriendly. It’s especially frustrating when your health, your evening, and really your whole holiday depend on the information you’re given. To be fair, they did seem to have used gluten-free soy sauce, and I felt fine. I’m sharing this so other people know. The restaurant already offers gluten-free options, and could make that a real plus by improving the team’s knowledge and communication.

Love Tiki. The tuna poke bowl has become my regular order because, wow. Their burger is definitely the best in town too. The chef brought our whole group free ice cream after “realizing” the rice had been a little overcooked. I honestly hadn’t noticed, and none of us had said anything. Class act.
