The food and accommodation were a big reason we chose this place, hoping for a restful day at the hot springs during our Salkantay trek. We were three solo travelers, but there wasn’t any information about meals or serving times, so we had to ask. Our former B&B host happened to arrive for lunch with his family to celebrate his birthday and kindly invited us to join. We shared one plate between the three of us. The food was good, but the next day we were charged 60 soles, which felt like a lot for what we shared. It was the most expensive plate of food we’d had in Peru. We also did laundry. We started it at 14:00, and it wasn’t ready until 20:00. For the next day’s ride back to Lucmabamba to continue the trek, we were first told it would cost 60 soles to get to Santa Teresa at 6:30, and we’d need to find other transport from there. Going all the way there with them would cost 200 soles. The previous day, we’d paid 80 soles for the same distance from Lucmabamba to the homestay. We hadn’t been told the bridge to the homestay had been washed out by a flood more than 20 days earlier. Google Maps gave us an inaccurate estimate, and the alternate route had a timed construction closure that lasted two hours. Luckily, we made the 1:00 window, or we’d have been stuck waiting another two hours. The place was clean and looked lovely, but after all this we felt under-accommodated and ripped off. It really didn’t meet our expectations. Breakfast was included, but it was one egg, a basket of bread with jam, and coffee.

Roger and the whole family were kind, attentive, and patient with our limited Spanish. Dinner, breakfast, and coffee were all great and much appreciated. We found the Hacienda using the directions they gave us, even in the dark, though the road was rough on a motorbike. We’d been recommended to stay here, and it lived up to that recommendation: a beautiful location, a very large comfortable room, and a great price.

Eco Hacienda Román is so close to Machupichu, which is why we chose it for our Peru vacation. We hadn’t expected it to be so beautiful and peaceful. The family-owned property has been passed down through generations, and behind the Hacienda there’s a huge coffee, fruit, and vegetable plantation near a waterfall. Everything is looked after with care and love. Family Román were friendly, kind, and very accommodating. Thank you so much!

A wonderful place run by a lovely family. I highly recommend it!

Everything was fresh from the family’s own plantation, and we had homemade coffee every day while learning how they made it. The lady is a wonderful cook, and the gentleman served our meals with such care. Their daughter took us on a lovely walk to the waterfall, telling us about nature as we went, and we picked fruit for energy. The dogs came along too, alert and watchful. We slept wonderfully in the very clean accommodation. Bryan also kept our transportation well organized and took us everywhere, including the nearby thermal baths. The family lives in a magical spot among the mountains and beautiful nature. Thank you for such heartfelt hospitality. Warm regards, Shari
