The food was okay, parking was roomy, and the common area was fine, but the bean bags looked like they'd been there forever. You can only imagine all the sweat and puke on them. The bigger problem was how poorly maintained and unclean the place felt. Even for a backpacker stay, the sheets, mattress, fan, and sleeping area should be clean. This was our first backpacker experience and it was a nightmare. They need a proper general cleaning at least once a month. We got the vibe, but I wouldn't stay here again, even for one night.

For what it costs per person, it feels worth the price. It's suitable for team building, family trips, or gatherings, and you can use the facilities if you pay for them. It's around a five-minute walk to the beach, which isn't bad, though the place is a bit far from the shore. Breakfast is free, with instant coffee, bread and peanut butter, and bananas if you ask. There are bunk beds, tents, and hammocks to choose from at different prices. The sleeping areas look quite sleek, and lockers are available, which isn't common elsewhere. The toilets are okay and have bidets, but they seem too small for a place this large. There are rinsing and shower areas, a big activity space, and a kitchen with all the basic equipment and utensils, though using it costs extra. I didn't use it myself. Heavy rain could be a problem, since the ground, especially the parking area, isn't paved.

I've slept in dirt-cheap hostels that were clean, so I don't see why this one, which feels expensive, has to be so dirty. I understand surf hostels aren't usually spotless, but these facilities clearly aren't well maintained. There are probably better places nearby at the same price. I wouldn't recommend it to budget travelers who are particular about cleanliness.

These Circle hostels are no-frills, and that's part of the appeal. I've visited the other branches and keep leaving with new friends. Ate Vangie and the rest of the staff make you feel like family, and they'll have a drink with you like you've known each other forever. Join a beach cleanup, do the bonfire and boodle fights, or take the tribes and treks tour. That last one was humbling and really worth it. Getting to know the locals was lovely. Highly recommend.
