Playa Papagayo Beach Inn

I didn’t stay here, since I only came across the place after arriving in Subic for the first time. The tenderloin steak was delicious, and the mango shake was perfect for dessert. Staff were excellent and very helpful, and the charming seaside restaurant has relaxing bay views.

We called from morning until evening to let them know we’d arrive late, and staff confirmed they knew. But when we were near the resort and called to ask about ordering dinner ahead, since we might miss kitchen hours, we were told our room had been given to guests extending their stay. Any deposit policy should have been clearly explained, and the communication with guests needs improvement. As a senior citizen traveling from Manila, that was exhausting. They made no effort to help beyond saying sorry, and we were left to fend for ourselves. I wouldn’t recommend this resort.

The final bill was nearly ₱1,800 for an order around ₱1,500, with extra fees that hadn’t been explained clearly in advance. Luckily I had extra cash, but the pricing needs to be more transparent. The restaurant is extremely overpriced for the food and experience. Menu prices are 5-10 times the average, so I expected premium service and exceptional food, but that wasn’t what I got. I waited about 40-60 minutes for my food, while tables nearby that arrived later were served first. I’d told staff early that I hadn’t eaten for over 24 hours and had just driven a long way from Antipolo to Olongapo. They said the order would be along soon, but it kept getting delayed. Even after I followed up several times, it felt like speed and my condition weren’t a priority, and the wait was frustrating and uncomfortable. The food wasn’t enjoyable, and the flavors were underwhelming. The chicken tasted off, the basic rice was overpriced, and drinks over ₱200 tasted like cheap street beverages. I also tried to get brief help taking photos, but staff seemed to avoid engaging with me repeatedly. For those prices, I found little value in the food, service, or overall experience. Other places offer better taste, clearer prices, and more attentive service for much less. I wouldn’t eat here again.

We only got a day pass and didn’t stay at the hotel. The cocktails were amazing, and we could use the showers and beach. Easily the best beach in Subač. We also met the owner, who was genuinely kind. Greetings from Turkey!
