The one person we met on staff was warm and helpful at check-in, and the place is handy for local amenities and the tram, which makes getting into the city easy and cheap. That was about it for the good parts. From Friday through Monday, we saw her only once, and no other staff at all. It felt as if guests were left to run things themselves. We came for a weekend city break and got a different room from the one we’d booked. It was still a twin, so we didn’t mind that. The condition was another matter. We had to make the beds ourselves; one had only a duvet cover, and the duvet for the other bed had a yellow stain. The towels smelled as though they hadn’t been washed in ages, and we had to share one. There was no shampoo or body wash, so we used hand soap. The room hadn’t been properly cleaned. There were cobwebs and spiders around, and the TV remote looked as if someone had been sick on it. I was glad I’d brought hand sanitizer. The curtains covered only half the window, which wouldn’t close or lock, and the room smelled stale and of cigarettes despite the no-smoking policy. The lights seemed close to burning out, though they lasted our stay. Air conditioning was there, but we couldn’t turn it on, and its filter was clogged with dust. The toilet flush kept failing, though we managed to get it working throughout the stay. At checkout, reception was empty, so we left the key unattended and took a photo of where we’d put it in case there was a problem. This feels more like a youth hostel than a hotel, and “Villa” seems like false advertising. It looks as though the place has been left to rot over the last five months. I wish I’d read the reviews before booking. Avoid it if you know what’s good for you.

The location is handy, between the city centre and airport, and the price is low. For one night on a tight budget, Villa Pallas might be manageable, but I wouldn’t return or recommend it to families with children. I paid 130 PLN, less than groceries would cost in Norway, so expectations have to be realistic, but this still doesn’t merit three stars. Maybe two, mainly for the location and price. At 7:55 in the morning there was nobody at the desk when I checked out, so I left the card behind the counter and hoped nobody would take it. I’d booked a single room, but it seemed they’d put sheets on just half of a double bed instead. The door lock didn’t work. You still couldn’t open the door from outside without a card, but room 2 would be easy to target with one of those poles people use in horror stories to reach under a door. The carpet hadn’t been vacuumed, and the walls were a little dirty. The bathroom was surprisingly clean, and the beds seemed fairly clean too. The walls are very thin, so footsteps or voices may wake you at night. A window opened onto the hallway, and the curtains were too short. I had to rig them so people couldn’t see into my room at night, an easy thing for the hotel to fix. There was also a strange, though not awful, smell.

We went in November, when there are fewer tourists and prices are lower. After the long trip to Gdańsk, we found hot tea waiting in the room, drank it, and went to sleep. Everything we needed was included in the price except hygiene supplies. Breakfast the next morning was a lifesaver and a lovely start to the day. The location is great, easy to reach by car or public transport. I’d absolutely recommend staying here for one or two nights.

The beds were clean and made for us each day, and the bathroom seemed reasonably clean. The rest was disappointing. Our room looked nothing like the photos, and the floors were very dirty, clearly not vacuumed. The room felt low-standard overall, and the shower was old and basic, unlike what the pictures suggested. There was also a strangely shaped wall that gave us an edge to bump our heads on while in bed. I wouldn’t recommend the breakfast for the price. A five-minute walk gets you something tastier for less than half as much.

The breakfast was decent, and the woman serving it was really polite and nice. Otherwise, avoid this place at all costs. There’s no service at reception, and the rooms need a lot of maintenance. Cobwebs are everywhere and bulbs need replacing. It’s a joke.
