FOKA Hostel

We were a group and rented a whole dorm. The hostel and the washroom inside the dorm were clean. After checking out, we could safely leave our bags there until we were ready to go.

The common room is cozy, with lots of seats, and worked really well for using a laptop. There’s also a big outdoor patio with sofas, tables, and blankets, great for groups. The kitchen is well equipped, although oddly it has no oven. A lift is available, and the location is good. The whole place felt very clean, and I saw staff cleaning throughout my stay. The beds were comfortable and had curtains, private bathrooms, individual sockets, and drawers, but the drawers don’t lock. There are only a few small lockers near the entrance, with none in the rooms, which seemed odd. Towels aren’t included. Check-in was simple, just using a card, and there’s a large luggage storage area for before or after your stay. Reception is open 24/7, though the woman checking me in seemed annoyed and even rolled her eyes while explaining things. Even so, given the quality, facilities, and price, I think it’s absolutely worth it.

The staff let in a homeless man who was drunk and carrying a bottle of vodka, which made me feel they weren’t taking the other guests’ safety into account. After I threatened to call the police, they removed him because he was breaking their no-alcohol and no-drugs rules.

The location suited me perfectly, just a 5-10 minute walk from the centre of this beautiful city. I’d come back for sure. The hostel seemed recently renovated, and the rooms looked modern and nice. Mine was cleaned thoroughly during my stay, the bed was comfortable, and it was quiet enough for a good night’s sleep.
