We wished we’d booked more time at Puertas at El Quenepo. My wife and I loved our stay. The place is steps from the beach in Esperanza and close to some of the best local restaurants, which made getting around easy. It also feels intimate and relaxing, with beautiful design and careful attention throughout. Everything was handled with care, professionalism, and precision from the moment we arrived.

Street noise looked like it might be a problem, but the room had a noise machine and we slept well every night. The bed was comfortable, too. The property and rooms are beautiful and well looked after, and Kate and the crew were so welcoming. They were always sweeping and keeping everything tidy. A perfect place to stay in Esperanza. I’d happily return and recommend it.

We loved the quiet common patio, with its peaceful feel and views of the beach and town. And El Quenepo Vieques downstairs was so good that we ate there two of our four nights, because we really liked the food. The seafood ceviche is a must. The dishes were creative but comforting, made beautifully with fresh ingredients, and consistently delicious. Kate, the owner, made us feel at home as soon as we arrived. She’s created a welcoming, easygoing stay, with thoughtful touches like drinks, sodas and water at the honor bar, coolers, beach chairs, Turkish beach towels, an ice machine, and a morning breakfast basket. We appreciated breakfast, especially with so few options nearby. We spent four wonderful nights at Puertas in Vieques. It was peaceful and charming, right across from Esperanza Beach, with comfort and thoughtful design throughout. We’d absolutely stay again.

We spent four nights here, and the stay, especially the service, fell short of what I expected. The bed was too small for two people. There was no room service, so we had to make our own beds and take out the trash, and we weren’t given fresh towels. When I asked for more, I got a hard time and was told I wasn’t being respectful. On our second day, I texted the woman handling messages to ask for towels. She kept saying she’d left one, but I explained that I’d put out four and needed at least two more for the last two days. A few minutes later she came to our door. She turned out to be the owner, and the conversation was unpleasant. She accused us of using 20 towels in two days. That wasn’t true: we got four beach towels on day one, and this was our first request to exchange bath towels. She said we needed to respect the locals and that this wasn’t Texas, where fresh towels are given every day. I hadn’t asked for new towels every day, and I didn’t understand how asking for them was disrespectful. The problem was her attitude and poor customer service, not really the towels. The street is very busy and loud, with cars blasting music at night, so it was hard to sleep. The beach in front isn’t very nice either. I wouldn’t recommend staying here if you want a relaxing visit or good customer service when you ask for towels. Don’t recommend, Not recommended, the service is very poor 🥶 😵💫😶🌫️

The breakfast basket was simple but fresh and delicious, and we were greeted by kind, lovely people despite it being low season. The room and building look stunning, and the clean, modern bedroom and bathroom still felt cozy. The doors let through all the noise, so expect to hear loud cars and the bars across the street, especially from a beach-view room. Earplugs were provided, and the noise is out of their hands. All in all, we had an amazing stay at Puertas and would 1000% come back and recommend it.
