Browns Central Hotel

The rooms are small, so be mindful of that when booking. We first got a very tiny one, but when we asked about changing, they upgraded us for free. It was late May, so I assume there was availability, and we were grateful. Even the new room was small by hotel standards, so I'd strongly suggest getting a good room. Service was brilliant, friendly, and helpful. There's no breakfast or bar in this hotel; both are at a nearby sister hotel, about 100 metres away, which wasn't a big deal. It's very central but on a quiet street, around 100 metres from Rua Augusta (?) and close to the river. The location and service make it easy to recommend, as long as you know about the room size. One unusual thing: a single heavy metal key operates both the door and electricity. Losing it costs €40, so we handed it in whenever we went out.

We'd definitely come back. The location is great for shops and restaurants, and you can walk to the water, cathedral, and castle. The rooms are compact but have what you need, which suited the boutique hotel feel I loved. The rain shower was amazing after a long day on foot, and the beds and pillows were really comfortable. There's a lovely lounge and bar, and on arrival we could wait for our room with a tasty welcome drink. The staff were friendly. Just around the corner is a popular restaurant with lines all day.

We spent ages choosing a Lisbon hotel, and Brown's Central exceeded what we expected. The attic Mansard room was beautiful, and the staff were great, especially the friendly, attentive bar team. The bar looked lovely in the photos and lived up to them. We had a nightcap there after dinner and ate there one evening too. The location in Baxia is handy for all the sights, just two streets from the Metro. It might be noisy in peak tourist season, but in January it was pretty quiet. Thanks for a great stay.

The hotel's looks and location were nice, but our stay didn't match the great experiences others have described. We had trouble with the thermostat, which showed an error, and the room was cold at night. When we asked for help, the staff seemed indifferent and made us feel like we were being a bother. They were more focused on chatting among themselves at the desk than helping. We gave up and spent three chilly nights there.
