We had a private double room for two nights at Hostel Seven Hills, and it was one of the most unpleasant stays we’ve had. The €45 nightly rate may sound low, but hygiene and quality were nowhere near acceptable to us, whatever the price. The staff and reception gave us no sense of welcome or professionalism, and the reception area smelled bad. Inside the room, a powerful chemical odor, perhaps from cleaning products or air freshener, made it hard to breathe. It seemed newly cleaned at first, but soon the smell felt overwhelming and the room was difficult to stay in. The floor was sticky and visibly dirty, with hair, nails, and other debris. There was hair on the linens, and the thin blanket looked old and stained. The mattress and bedding felt worn and unhygienic. The shared bathrooms were just as poorly kept. Mold showed on the walls and ceilings, paint was peeling, and the facilities didn’t feel clean or maintained. Ventilation did little, and the damp, musty smell was everywhere. Getting in was unpleasant too. The entrance hallway stank, and the building’s glass door was broken and left open all the time. The dirty, unsettling stairwell went up four floors, with apartment doors open and cigarette smoke hanging in the air. We didn’t feel safe in the building or nearby. There were visibly many people sleeping rough and frequent offers of drugs. That isn’t directly the hostel’s fault, of course, but it added to how uncomfortable the stay felt. We can’t recommend this hostel. We hope management takes the hygiene, safety, and guest experience problems seriously and makes urgent improvements.

The hostel had no heating, and the blankets were so thin they didn’t keep me warm. Nights got extremely cold, making it impossible to sleep. That’s completely unacceptable in cold weather, and I don’t recommend staying here.

I booked this for my mom’s trip, and she was treated in an unfriendly way when she arrived. An old, grumpy lady gave her a different room in the basement with no windows because she didn’t know which room was hers. The breakfast was pathetic. I really don’t recommend anyone stay here.

I’m giving it one extra star because it was quiet, though that may be too quiet for some. You don’t meet other travelers here, as people mostly stay in their rooms. The sitting room explains why: it’s just tables and chairs, not even a couch, and there’s no comfortable place to relax. From there you can see tents belonging to homeless people. The area loses it another star for me. It was mostly half empty, and the owner seems way too greedy. Compared with much better Lisbon hostels in better locations, such as The Lounge Hostel, Room 007, and Urban Garden, which were around 13€ in the Winter Season, this place was charging 20€ at the time. That’s ridiculous. There are no volunteers, and cleaning only happens once a day, so nobody really looks after the common areas or guests. We had a group of very dirty guests who left dishes unwashed and trash everywhere. We ended up cleaning it ourselves because it was filthy. Maybe we were unlucky, but guests shouldn’t be left to fend for themselves like that. They clearly haven’t heard of customer experience. It’s overpriced, the common areas are poor, and I came away thinking the place was poor overall.

I had a booking for 09/06 at Hostel Seven Hills in Lisbon, but arrived to find nobody there and the property looking completely abandoned. I called the contact number several times and got no answer. It seems totally fake, and I was left without a place to stay in a foreign city. This was awful and could have been a scam. Do not book here, avoid it at all costs.
