Hotel Príncipe Real

The room faced the street, so it was noisy, and the air conditioning wasn't working. I like a quite cold room at night, so I had to leave the windows open for fresh air and could hear all the traffic. Still, it's a lovely hotel with first-class service. Breakfast is made to order, with plenty to get you going for the day. The old town, bars, and restaurants are all within walking distance. I'd recommend it.

We walked everywhere from this hotel and never needed a bus. The location is perfect and close to everything in town, and the staff are very friendly. Breakfast was really good and generous, and the chef, who speaks seven languages, was friendly too. The hotel is a bit old, so I wouldn't call it a four-star place, but it was very clean.

Breakfast runs from 7 a.m. until noon and is ordered from a menu, which makes sense to me instead of leaving buffet food out for five hours. The custard tarts were a brilliant way to start the day. The hotel is near the top of a hill, daunting at first, though you get used to it. Taxi and Uber pickups can be a little tricky, but drivers manage. My room was spacious, with a very comfy bed and plenty of hot water in the large bathroom. It faced the street on the first floor, while other rooms have city views. The welcoming, efficient staff made my stay comfortable. I'd happily return and recommend it.

The location in Bairo Alto was perfect, and I was really satisfied with my stay. The staff were kind and helpful, breakfast was good, and the room was very clean. That said, the hotel was really old, and the rooms definitely need renovation.
