The key handover through Whatsapp and a key box was straightforward. The apartment is on the ground floor of a three-storey old town house, with a shabby-chic look and an unusual layout. From the tiny entrance hall, one door leads into the apartment and another goes to the backyard terrace, where there’s covered seating. Inside, the kitchen and living room share a space with a small sofa and a single bed. The black-painted bathroom and a spacious bedroom with a double bed are further in. It’s hard to judge cleanliness because the renovation was minimal. Some missing or damaged tiles had been replaced with black-painted cement plaster, while the rest was left as it was. The rooms are painted very dark, with little lighting and small windows, so they don’t really look clean. That may also be the impression from the surrounding alleys, where there was some rubbish and places that seemed to be used as public toilets. Where there’s rubbish, there are rats.

Sandra was lovely to deal with. She left us water and snacks for our arrival and had the air conditioning on since it was hot outside. The apartment had everything we needed, with a big bedroom and a sitting room. I liked that there was no TV, which helped it feel like a holiday. It sits right behind the famous 28 tram terminus in mouraria, and from there you can see all of Lisbon. Restauradores and bairro alto/baixa chiado are less than a 10-15 minute walk, or you can take the metro from the central square just behind the apartment. The African and Asian part of Lisbon around it is lively and vibrant, with people socialising outside. The neighbours were lovely and polite. We really enjoyed our stay and would come again.

The room was cosy and really nice, with the facilities we needed and a great bed. It’s right in the city centre by the Martim Moniz trams and subway. The entrance is down a small alley that felt a little intimidating at first, but I didn’t have any problems. A great stay in Lisboa.

We really liked the apartment’s clean, cosy Greek feel, and the location worked very well for us. The host was especially friendly and understanding. We’ll definitely come back on our next trip!

The hosts were very nice, and the place itself was cosy. Still, the surrounding area made us feel so unsafe that we had to find somewhere else. We were also only allowed to pay with cash or PayPal, not a card.
