For the price, this is hard to beat, though the accommodation is basic. I booked three nights. The room is small, but it has its own shower and toilet, and costs less than a shared hostel room. The staff were really friendly and helpful. For entry, press the bottom-left button on the bell, it isn’t labelled Petala.

There’s a lot that needs doing before I’d consider this a proper place to accommodate tourists. My basement room smelled strongly of sewage. People were shouting in the corridor for most of the day, and I could hear everything from the neighboring rooms. I’m sure they could hear us too.

It’s fine if you’re content with a clean bed and bathroom and don’t care about luxury. Need extra towels or blankets? They’ll help. They’re also willing to give you a little more time for a late checkout.

It’s not a great place, and the neighborhood isn’t great either. It’s not very close to the center or the sights, but it’s among the best prices you can find in touristy Lisbon.
