Urban Garden Hostel

The hostel was okay overall. The cleaning team did a very good, regular job in the kitchen, rooms, and toilets. We booked two nights separately and were told to come down in the morning to ask to keep our beds rather than switch rooms. The next morning, the receptionist wasn’t there, and the woman who was there didn’t know what we meant, even though she’d been there the night before. Somehow we were allowed to stay in our beds. She often stood beside someone else as if she were an intern, which wasn’t an issue by itself, but when alone she seemed unsure what to do. At checkout on 08.10.25, a new receptionist said we’d only get €10 back from our deposit because we had one key card. We said we had paid €20. The same woman, sounding half asleep from the back of the room, called out that we’d paid €10, even though she had been there and should have known it was €20. We had to leave and couldn’t argue it out, but that experience is why I can only give the hostel two stars.

My reservation had been confirmed, but it was canceled without warning on the day I arrived. Then, while I was standing at reception, they asked me to pay again for the stay they had just canceled. A week earlier I’d emailed to check that my payment had gone through, and they replied that everything was confirmed. Even so, they canceled the booking, leaving me to find somewhere else at the last minute. The disorganization and lack of respect for guests were astounding. I can’t recommend this hostel.

I loved this hostel. The staff and volunteers were so nice, and I made friends there. If you want a nice bed, a good shower, and the chance to meet awesome people, I’d recommend it. I was sad to leave. I could live there!

I booked and paid online in advance for two nights for one person. Before check-in, I lost my backpack with all my personal documents, including my passport, so I couldn’t check in. I went to the hostel and explained the emergency to the reception staff in person, hoping for some understanding or help, but no one offered any assistance. I then sent a written cancellation and refund request through Booking.com, explaining everything again, and never got a reply from either the hostel or the platform. It was deeply disappointing to be left without support in an emergency. Before I was due to arrive, the staff had contacted me about extra charges for a towel and the main entrance key card, but when I needed help they stayed silent. No response, no understanding.
