The fish soup was rich and full of flavor, and the espada was fresh, nicely seasoned, and cooked just right. I also enjoyed the refreshing sangria with the meal. Cantinho do Lugar de Baixo is a lovely seaside spot with a relaxed, cosy feel and friendly service. A great way to enjoy a taste of Madeira, highly recommended.

The prices were good, and we felt very well looked after by the attentive staff. I really liked the food here. It seems like a place where locals eat, and so far, this was the best seafood and shellfish I’ve had on the island. We had mixed fish, seafood, potatoes, and salad for €49.95, beer for €4, and pop for €2.

This is really just about the people and the early coffee. I came late one evening for a digestif, and they prepared the glass in a special way to bring out the rum’s flavor. What a difference! Since I was nearby, I needed coffee every day for a few days. My first time was at 7:10 am. It was quiet, and I had a nice chat with Carolina. The coffee is soooo good. By 7:30, the place fills with working men starting their day with coffee. I love that moment. It’s worth coming very early for a coffee, thank you!

We went to the restaurant for local food, and it was great. The street is noisy, but we didn’t mind. The portions are huge, so ordering a few different things to share is probably best.
