The view was amazing, and the service was excellent.

I ended up cancelling the reservation because the whole situation felt strange. My one positive point was that the owner initially replied to my messages quickly and didn’t ask for the full amount, or even a partial payment, straight away. They said I could pay half at the beginning of May and the rest on check-in day. That seemed fair to me, and I think more places should work that way. It meant I could avoid potentially losing my money. I booked through booking but got no message from the accommodation to confirm the booking or explain payment methods, so I had to ask. I also asked about the barbecue mentioned on booking. They said there was only an electric grill because they couldn’t light a fire in a forest area, which I understand. I asked whether the water would be heated, since vrbo said it would be from May to September. I was told heating the water would cost 150€. I said that if those conditions were listed on one booking site, they should be the same on another. I understand prices might vary because booking sites charge different fees, but changing the conditions doesn’t make sense. Instead of replying to me, the owner passed my question to booking, who asked me for a screenshot and tried to sort it out. Rather than answering my questions pleasantly, the owner said that if I wasn’t happy with the conditions on booking, I could cancel and there were plenty of other options. They also mentioned that the toilet was broken. From a negative review by another customer, I saw it had been broken since March, and it still hadn’t been fixed in May. After that, the owner changed the rules and now says the water cost is always paid. Interesting ;)
