1905 Apartments

The flat was practical, comfortable and clean, with comfortable mattresses. Check-in and check-out were easy, and the location is excellent. Noise was the main downside: the windows don't block sound, so nights can be loud. Finding street parking may also be difficult.

The location is central, so most things are within walking distance, but being on Porto's Pub and Bar Street means a quiet night is out of the question. Inside, it didn't look like the photos suggested. The beds creaked and had loose legs, the floors were noisy, and footsteps from upstairs made the walls vibrate. There was also an extra cleaning charge, which I understand, but nobody explained it and they always wanted cash. I'd come back to Porto, but never to this apartment.

We came to Porto for a pleasant weekend as a couple, but this stay went badly from the start. We mistakenly checked in at 12:00 PM, two hours early, at 1905 Apartments. The room hadn't been cleaned, so we took photos and looked up the owner's contact details. That's when we realized our mistake. We trusted the owner and went sightseeing, returning at 7:00 PM. The room looked clean at first, but the blankets were still dirty, the pillows damp and stained, the cushions disgusting, and dust was all over the room. Photos show it. We wouldn't sleep in those conditions, especially during the COVID-19 pandemic, when the apartment claimed it was thoroughly disinfected. That clearly hadn't happened. The owner wouldn't answer our calls. In reply to our email asking for a solution, he said, "You'll have to talk to the maid." We left and had to find a hotel at the last minute, an unexpected expense. We got no response to later messages, no new sheets and not even an apology. Our reservation was through eDreams/Booking.com, and we still haven't had a refund or heard back from anyone. This ruined our weekend. Other hotels, some not much more expensive, are more central, clean, and have reception staff available 24/7. We wouldn't recommend this apartment to anyone looking for a pleasant few days in Porto.

The city center is a pleasant 15-minute walk, and there's plenty nearby, including shops, bars, restaurants, and bus and tram stops. Parking lots are close, though they're all paid. The apartment has been renovated beautifully and is spacious and very clean. It came with a coffee machine and pods, plus a welcome bottle of Port wine. It's in a semi-central part of Porto, near the Lello bookshop.
